I'm enchanted by this place.

I've got a list of five waves I want to surf in the next ten years. I had this spot on the list but after checking out Surfline's spot check on it, I'm realizing it may be more of a mission than I'm ready for- the place is insane. Surfline did a great job getting audio commentary as well as stills- take your time and check it out it's worth it.

36 hour drive from Cape Town!?!

Whoa.

That wave seems like it would be mighty challenging on a SUP going backside.

Wow! I love how the photographer caught all 4 surfers in the waves. No wonder it's called Skeleton Bay with all the sharks! But I suppose it'd be worth the day and a half drive in a 4x4, a bunch of boards ready to be smashed, and an awesome guide if you really must go. I'll be praying for ya.

Wow! I love how the photographer caught all 4 surfers in one shot on the waves, in the water, and on land. But, no wonder it's called Skeleton Bay...not just from the waves, but from the sharks. Wonder if it's really smelly there, but that may not matter bc the sand dunes are beautiful. I suppose it'd be worth the I don't know how many thousand miles by flight, plus day and half from Cape Town in a 4x4, a bunch of boards ready to be smashed, and an super awesome guide to see those waves. (I think I have a little anxiety from these waves...)

I've been thinking about this place for years. I know somebody who went in there just to hike, not even to surf. He said it's like The Lost World in there. Breathtakingly beautiful, tons of critters -- many of which want to eat you or colonize you parasitically. Then there's the locals, who have a lot of guns and no sense of humor. God help you if you pick up a rough diamond from the ground, which there are apparently a lot of; you end up in a prison. Seems like you have to go in with a paramilitary unit, and lots of money for bribes. Straight up, I'm as scared of the logistics as I am of that ledgy left.
