Every time I run into this guy I just get stoked.... yeah Bagby! Bags: always positive, always smiling and, this time, the grin was super-sized because homeboy was sporting a brand new 9'0 x 27" x 3.75" stringerless freshy shaped by Gary McNabb of Nectar surfboards. Check it out:
Photo: Yep- stoked... can you see it? There's something about having a freshy put together for you that keeps you fired up on even the smallest, coldest, grayest day(s) of summer. The surf was so minimal this day but, hell yeah, we were going surfing!
Photo: It was pretty obvious to me that the thing worked. Here's Bags on a crumbly, onshore, one footer getting at least four and a half feet of that thing out of the water.... shwack!
Photo: "So what's the secret?" you say. And the answer is... there isn't one secret to a board that works well. There are so many variables, compound curves and multiple points along a board's outline that need to be blended together to bring a board to life. And then there's bottom contours, foil and rails to be considered... too much for me to wrap my brain around. Check out Bags' dog eyeballing the fin placement... a whole other dimension to consider!
Photo: Speaking of fin placement... check out how far across the board those outside fins are placed; trailing edge and tip are virtually at the bump... hmmm, look familiar Kiwi?
Photo: Hindquarters like a racehorse... loving that slight diamond tail with the hard edges... I'm thinking this one is loose and drivey.
Now we just need a ride report... Bagby?
