Hot Clip: Luke Egan BLOWING MINDS on a stand up!

Whoa! Hold the press, I've got a new favorite. Check out Luke Egan absolutely ripping on a stand up board:

This may take the crown
for the best SUP surfing I've seen this year. In an interview from a year ago, Joel Parkinson made the comment that he'd been doing stand up to stay in shape for surfing the upcoming contests of the ASP world tour. He also made the off hand statement that while he and the boys were having fun paddling around, Luke Egan was surfing his stand ups just like his regular boards.

I'd seen other footage of Luke surfing his short stand ups and remembered how hard off the bottom he was pushing his boards. The radical nature of his surfing and the clean crossover from high performance short board surfing to flat out killing it on a stand up board left a mark on my memory. Joel's statement is so much more valid now that I've seen this short vid. This clip definitely raises the bar for performance stand up paddling- I'm stoked and inspired by it!

Thanks for posting this one John, just more evidence of the true validity of SUP not only for fitness and strength training and preparation, but as alway...for FUN! Generic SUP haters simply have no clue.

Hey Gary- just flat out RIPPING...! Even if you hate stand up, I don't see how you could deny that those first couple of gouges weren't HOT!!!!

Love it!

He has an 8'0" x 30" wide board; like he said, "I just love to ride my stand up board like a short board". Like having your cake and eating it too!

He's got me inspired to get back out there as I've been beach bound with a minor injury for the past 2 days. Ouch!

Go for it John an 8'6" will float you; no worries!

See ya!

Gail :)

Do you know how thick his boards are?

Always thinking about the "next" board. LOL!

Thanks!

Hi Gail-

Yep- I'm thinking around 8'6"...

If you check out the latest stand up journal mag, there's a nice half page shot of L.E. surfing that 8.0 and you can see how wide it keeps through to the nose. The foil though looks pretty thin all the way to the tail...

I think making these smaller ones get's a lot more touchy because you've got so much less real estate to blend it all together...

But I know I'm going to want one!

Wow; that back hand pass of the paddle to get his hand in position for the rail grab so tight!

Really inspiraional.

Hey Wadadi-

That vid get's me pumped to go out and try to throw a hack like he's doing... isn't that the mark of a good surf flick!

Looks like he is riding a Jimmy Lewis (SURF) on the footage of the big left. Jimmy's shortest board is a 9'8" x 27” x 4" Great style all around... Makes it look easy...
